Take the spread on the 'Game Day Cookbook'

Two things are true about avid at-home sports fans: They rarely missed their teams' games on TV, and they like some eats and drinks while they watch the action.

With the college and pro football seasons looming, and baseball ongoing into October, Daina Falk's new "The Hungry Fan's Game Day Cookbook" looks like it'll score big (Oxmoor House, $23, 256 pages; on sale Aug. 23).

Among its 165 recipes are the good (Texas toast brisket sandwich, lobster roll), the bad (Cracker Jack corn dogs, bacon-truffle dip) and the ... . well, ugly in a good way (peanut butter-bacon burgers, baked chicken spaghetti).

Who wants a cocktail to go with those pot roast sliders? How about a "Beermosa" (a mimosa with brew in place of champagne) or a Blue Valentine with rye whiskey, peach schnapps and Blue Curacao.

No surprise that Falk "grew up around professional athletes," given that her father is sports agent David Falk. For more recipes and tips, visit her at www.hungryfan.com
