They promised fans a night they wouldn’t forget, and tonight Take That certainly delivered on this promise.
Following last weekend’s Champions League victory there was something special about watching the first music gig in Anfield for ten years, with the Band singing towards the Kop.
And it was made more memorable when Gary Barlow brought out Gerry Marsden, who despite his age, gave the crowds the heartwarming moment of singing his classic Liverpool anthem You’ll Never Walk Alone.
Although this moment, which no doubt gave fans goosebumps, came at the end of the show, both Gary Barlow and Mark Owen made it clear early on of their admiration for Liverpool; it’s team and city.
Sat behind his piano, Gary Barlow said: “What a week to be in Merseyside. I’m just so happy.
“I travelled here with my mum who grew up in Walton which isn’t far from here.
“She even showed me her bus stop.
“We’ve been made to feel so welcome by everyone at the club.”
The show itself was split into two parts: the nineties and more recent songs.
The first part was however full of cringeworthy moments. The three members sat on motorbikes and performed dance routines that maybe should have stayed in the nineties.
But, they gave their diehard fans exactly what they wanted, and cringe or not the packed stadium lapped their every move up.
Hits such as Greatest Day, Everything Changes and These Days were highlights from the earlier part of the show.
But, the moment many fans had hoped for came when the band introduced Lulu to the stage for Relight My Fire.
The screams from audiences were so loud they almost drown the four singers on stage.
Want you back for good, mixed with Shine and the last performance of the night which was Rule the World gave fans a night they’d all hoped for.
I left still covered in goosebumps, from yet another memorable night at Anfield.
Take That has continued what has been an amazing week in the city.
