Take our Love Islander or future PM quiz: who said it?

In a high-stakes contest between an ITV2 reality series and the future of the Conservative Party, mix-ups can happen. It’s Love Island versus Gove Island; Tory with a y versus Dani with an i; the DBS versus the NHS. And that’s just the previous series. “Not another one,” as our friend Brenda from Bristol would say ... or was it Kem from Season 3?

Regardless, we’re back for two new hot contests to decide who holds the power on a small island. If you too struggle to distinguish between who’s running and who’s sunning, challenge yourself to attribute these quotes. Candidate or contestant? You must choose.

1. “I say f*** f*** business”

a) Snakey Adam’s light take on sexual politics in Season 4 of Love Island?

b) Matt Hancock’s tough take on actual politics in the rerun of the Tory leadership contest.

2. “It’s a little bit leave it”

a) The title of Chris’s rap to lift the mood in Season 3 of the reality show.

b) Esther McVey explaining the problem of Theresa May’s proposed Brexit deal to voters in the Peterborough by-election.

3. Was:

— “So what do you think about Brexit?”

— “What’s that?”

— “When we are leaving the European Union?”

— “I seriously don’t have a clue ...”

a) an exchange between Boris Johnson and a constituent in his official campaign video launched this week.

b) an exchange between Georgia and Hayley in the last series of Love Island.

4. “It is what it is”

a) Sherif’s oft-used catchphrase in the first episode of Season 5.

b) Sajid Javid’s message of unity to unpick the cross-party Brexit impasse.

5. “Look at Harry and Meghan, they were unexpected”

a) How Dani expressed her doubts about Jack in 2018.

b) How Andrea Leadsom launched her leadership bid in 2019.

6. ‘He can’t load a dishwasher and took his driving test seven times ...’ was:

a) How Dani began explaining she had fallen for Jack in 2018.

b) How Sarah Vine explained why Michael Gove should lead the country in 2019.

7. “Men are getting a raw deal”

a) How Marcel Somerville reacted when he failed to be selected by the women.

b) Comments that Dominic Raab declined to distance himself from.
