‘Take it to your garbage outside immediately’: Woman says you shouldn’t let dates leave cell phone chargers in your house. Here’s the scary reason why

One woman says a phone charger is not always just a charger, and if you’re someone who likes to have fun and invite strangers to your home, you shouldn’t let them leave a charger behind.

“I assure you that a cell phone cord sometimes isn’t just a cell phone charging cord, and you should never let anybody come into your house and leave their cell phone charger,” says TikToker MansfieldSmokeshow (@ohio_smokeshow) in a viral video. “So if someone has come to your house and left their cell phone charger, you should throw [the wall adapter] and the cord outside.”

She concludes, “Take it out to your garbage outside immediately. Don’t ask questions.”

‘I was today year’s old when I found this’

In the comments section, viewers suggested the dangerous type of cable the TikToker could be referring to.

User Diana wrote, “OMG cable. I was today [year’s] old when I found this.”

“I work in cybersecurity she is 100% correct,” user Kyle Baker said. “You don’t know what’s underneath the plastic in a phone charger and you don’t know if the cable is an OMG cable.”

A third viewer said, “For those wondering: the ‘OMG cable’ can be used to hack any device it’s plugged into. Phone charger blocks can easily contain a camera. And really almost any small object can contain a camera.”

What is the OMG Cable?

Also known as the O.MG Elite cable, the OMG Cable is one that looks like an ordinary lightning cable used for phone charging and data transfer. “However, beneath its innocuous exterior lies a cleverly designed device capable of compromising the security of connected devices,” Veuz Concepts states.

Can a phone charger and wall adapter contain hidden cameras?

A simple Google search nets results from Amazon and other retailers selling wall adapters that contain hidden cameras.

The Mary Sue contacted the TikToker via comment and direct message.
