Goalscorer supreme Ellen White struck a last-gasp winner to lift Manchester City past Birmingham - but was nearly subbed off just before.
Gareth Taylor's side were made to come from behind twice to seal a hard-earned three points in the West Midlands and the Lionesses record goalscorer got the crucial winning touch.
It seems that Taylor was at one point tempted to withdraw White but was glad he held his nerve in the end.
"She’s fantastic at that and there are times when she’s not looking like she’s going to score in a game, and you sometimes take her off at your peril," said Taylor.
"That was in my mind, really – do I put Bunny [Shaw] straight down the middle – but the fact is we’re low on bodies and we had to look after (Hayley) Raso, who’s complaining about her groin problem.
"That was Ellen [White] doing what she does."
Georgia Stanway struck from 25 yards to cancel out Birmingham's early opener and her Lionesses team-mate Lauren Hemp nodded home to make it 2-2, before White settled the contest.
White stole the headlines but i twas Khadija 'Bunny' Shaw's stint on the right flank that thrilled Taylor and fine cross for White's winner that he felt held most sway in deciding the contest in his side's favour.
"I think these players need to understand that, whatever the position they play in, if they’re in the front five then they’re an attacking player and they need to bring what they bring," he said.
"Bunny did that when she played out on the right – I thought she was a handful, she was difficult to play against, she made balls that weren’t hers with her brute strength and her quality.
"It was a quality ball from Bunny and a really good finish from Ellen."
