Take a wander along Glasgow's stunning new Amsterdam-esque boardwalk at Firhill Basin

Glasgow is now home to an amazing Amsterdam-esque boardwalk in the north of the city - and we were blown away by how beautiful it is after we headed along for a wander along it.

Located just a mile from the city centre alongside the Forth and Clyde Canal at Firhill Basin, the boardwalk is part of a number of developments to encourage more people to visit and take advantage of the urban oasis that is The Claypits - Glasgow's only inner-city Local Nature Reserve.

The new boardwalk is the latest milestone in the £6m Claypits project alongside the newly opened Garscube Bridge, which connects communities at either side of the Canal and provides travel and leisure options for walkers, runners and cyclists, giving them access to the nature reserve.

New and improved pathways, picnic areas, wildlife habitats and viewpoints are also part of the improvement works at the site, which was originally the home of a clay quarry used when the canal was first built in the late 1700s, as well the site of a foundry, glassworks and boat-building yard.

The installation of the boardwalk follows the opening of a 'secret' 845-metre-long pathway trail back in March of 2018 (Glasgow Live)

The installation of the boardwalk follows the opening of a 'secret' 845-metre-long pathway trail back in March of 2018, a robust, all-weather path built to allow the public to explore the 25 acres of woodland and wetland that make up the Claypits.

And we encourage everyone to head along and check it out for themselves!
