The British Council and Social Enterprise UK (SEUK) are researching the extent to which the UK social enterprise sector is internationalising. The research follows the 2013 SEUK State of Social Enterprise survey which found that 11% of UK social enterprises were 'internationalising' by exporting their goods and services.
'Internationalising' is used to refer to the range of activities undertaken by UK social enterprises to deliver their social aims overseas; there is no strict criteria. Internationalising could mean that social enterprises are exporting existing goods or services, developing services for an international market or perhaps social franchising or licensing with partners in other countries.
The British Council and SEUK seek to support social enterprises looking to internationalise and have commissioned Steve Allman to research the subject and produce a report outlining the current position, future opportunities and potential challenges for social enterprises, in addition to drawing on the expertise within the sector from those social enterprises which have already internationalised and the organisations which have supported them to do so.
We'd like to hear from UK social enterprises that already trade outside of the UK and others who are considering exporting or internationalising. We've prepared a short survey to capture your views which takes approx. 10 minutes to complete. Any social enterprises that respond will be acknowledged in the final report and have the opportunity of keeping in touch with British Council and SEUK to hear how this work develops.
