Take a look inside the secret Glasgow building that’s straight out of a Wes Anderson film

Glasgow is full of amazing buildings that plenty of us have walked by or might have wondered what they are like inside but ones we've never thought to have a peek in to have a look at.

Buildings such as The Britannia Panoptican, the Trades Hall of Glasgow and the other hidden gems buried among the absolute treasure trove of stunning architecture to be found in the city.

But now there's a new one that we think deserves to go straight to the top of the list - a secret Wes Anderson-inspired interior to be found within a former school in the outskirts of the city.

The incredible interior lies within the former Stonelaw Public School/Rutherglen Academy building on Melrose Avenue in Rutherglen, a Category B listed structure dating back to 1886.

After being redeveloped into 36 residential apartments back in 2001, it gained itself an aesthetic and colour scheme that feels like it's part of Anderson's Grand Budapest Hotel.

Resident Graham McCarey told Glasgow Live: "Even after two years living here, it's quite magical to step out in the atrium area. Every time somebody steps through the doors into it for the first time it always elicits quite a stunned response.

"We'd never really thought about Rutherglen as a place to live specifically...but when we were looking around to buy somewhere - having been renting in the southside for a few years - we came across this place straight away and were captivated.

"Coming on through the main doors into the entry/staircase area you immediately feel like you are in a school building. But when you open the next set of doors into the atrium, it's quite unexpected.

"We also must confess that we hadn't really noticed the Wes Anderson comparison...but now we totally do, and it's added an extra layer of magic to the place for us. And we are Wes Anderson fans...having made the pilgrimage to the café he designed when we visited Milan.

"Our own flat (duplex/maisonette) within the building doesn't have the same feel, but we do take pride in tasteful and quirky decor too!"

As if the Wes Anderson style atrium wasn't enough of a reason to attract movie lovers, the old school was once attended by Stan Laurel of Laurel and Hardy fame when he was a youngster.

And in its period as Stonelaw High School, it was also attended by Outlander and Burnistoun actor Richard Rankin and fellow Outlander and The Angels' Share actor Scott Kyle.

We would absolutely love to go pay a visit to it some time!
