Take a look back at Labour's last election victory - 15 years ago to the day

The last time Labour won a General Election was in 2005 - 15 years ago.

Voters in the UK went to the polls on May 5 that year, to elect 646 members to the House of Commons, and the results were declared the following morning.

The Labour Party, led by Tony Blair, won its third consecutive victory, with Blair becoming the only Labour leader beside Harold Wilson to form three majority governments.

The party also won plenty of seats in the North East.

Among its wins were Newcastle Central, where Jim Cousins was named MP, Newcastle East and Wallsend, where Nick Brown won, and Newcastle North, where Doug Henderson was voted the winner.

Meanwhile in Tynemouth, Labour's Alan Campbell kept his seat and the North Tyneside seat stayed in the hands of Stephen Byers.

However, some constituencies went to other parties - Berwick-upon-Tweed was won by Liberal Democrat Alan Beith and Hexham went to Conservative Peter Atkinson.

Here, we have put together a selection of pictures looking back at the 2005 election.
