Take a look at the indoor roof-top style terrace now open at Nottingham bar

It's a scorcher right now but as we well know it could be teaming down with rain by tomorrow.

Sitting outside for a coffee or beer doesn't always go to plan in the UK with the heavens liable to open at any time.

But at least this Nottingham city centre bar has got it sussed by designing an indoor-outdoor roof terrace.

The upstairs bar at the new Glass House (formerly Monty's) is decked out with picnic benches and parasols.

Artificial grass, fern patterned wallpaper, hanging baskets and foliage create a garden vibe.

Sun beams in through the extensive glass windows overlooking the comings and goings in Trinity Square - but the air-con prevents it feeling like a greenhouse.

There's even a cool breeze from the ceiling fans and propeller-powered racing car displayed on high.

Unveiling phase two of the makeover, co-owner Dan Brown said: "It gets the sun in the daytime and sunsets at night.

"It has an inside outside feel and continental style table service ordering through our app."

The white-washed picnic benches are comfier than normal as the wooden seats are covered in fuchsia-coloured crushed velvet.

Huge lampshades imported from Amsterdam, lavish mirrors and oversized armchairs, perfect for the Instagram selfie, complete the fresh, fun look.

The revamped downstairs and outside patio opened last month. The third phase - the remaining section of upper floor, currently out of bounds to the public, should be completed soon.

Newly appointed general manager Rob Glasby, who used to work at the Playhouse bar, said: "We're aiming for August bank holiday weekend."

The big sister to GinSecco, at the top of the Cornerhouse opposite, is focusing on drinks until then. Cocktails, beer, wine, spirits, hot drinks and soft drinks can be ordered.

Once the final phase is complete the kitchen will begin operating. A Vietnamese menu, appropriately with glass noodles, will be served. Afternoon tea, with a twist, is likely to swap sandwiches for summer rolls, which are like spring rolls but are wrapped in translucent rice-paper and served cold.

The bar has extended the opening hours it began with after coming out of lockdown, from three days a week to Wednesday to Sunday, from 12noon until 12midnight. Once fully open the late licence until 2am will kick in.
