Take a look around the new Mayfair as it opens in Newcastle on site of legendary nightspot

With a firm nod to the legendary Newcastle nightspot of the same name, The Mayfair Pub & Kitchen has now opened in Newcastle.

Right on cue for Christmas, the two storey haunt has flung open its doors on Newgate Street on the site of the former , a place which deservedly wrote itself into Geordie folklore after hosting gigs by absolutely huge names from the world of music including Pink Floyd, Queen, U2, The Who, AC/DC, The Police and Nirvana.

And the owners of the new business, which replaces once popular party hotspot Sam Jacks , have given a firm nod to the hey days of the old Mayfair, by putting up old posters advertising its enviable catalogue of gigs.

Right next to The Gate, The Mayfair Pub & Kitchen is serving up home-cooked food, locally-produced craft beers, gins and cocktails and also boasts its own cafe, right at the front of the venue, with a wide variety of very tempting cakes available to tuck into while sipping on a tea or coffee.

The Mayfair's main menu launches next week with Sunday roasts set to be plated up from this weekend. Offers you can already take advantage of include a lunchtime deal giving you any sandwich, stottie or wrap, together with a side or your choice and a soft drink or hot drink to sit-in and enjoy or takeaway for £6.

Away from the food side of things, a host of retro games are located at the rear of the venue for customers to enjoy including pinball, table football, classic arcade space invaders and electronic darts, which is becoming increasingly popular.

And, staying true to The Mayfair's musical roots, there will be a live DJ playing on a Friday and Saturday evening and a soul session every Sunday (Souled out Sunday) between 4pm and 8pm.

The upstairs area of The Mayfair will be the VIP ‘La Dolce Vita’ event space, available for private hire and party packages with celebrity guest speakers on match days.

Joe Smith, project director, said: “Newcastle has been crying out for a venue that offers a relaxed environment that serves great food and drinks in a welcoming atmosphere and we think The Mayfair Pub and Kitchen will deliver this.

"Guests will be treated to a first-class experience that will make them want to come back time and again. We want our customers to leave with a smile.”
