'Take a friend': Police warn Tinder users after robbery

A man has told police he was on his way to a Tinder date when he was chased and robbed by three men in Sydney's east on Sunday morning.

The trio allegedly stole the 23-year-old's wallet and cash after he was intercepted on Wallis Parade at Bondi Beach just after midnight.

The three men were arrested later that morning nearby.

"The dating profile was set up, obviously falsely, to entice this male to attend a location in the eastern suburbs," Detective Acting Inspector Michael Egan-Hirst said.

"Three males have approached him and one has chased him and robbed him of his wallet and some cash."

An 18-year-old man was charged with robbery and granted conditional bail to appear before Waverly Local Court next month.

The other two were released, but police said further charges could be laid.

Det. Insp. Egan-Hirst urged people to be cautious when online dating.

"Never arrange a face-to-face meeting with someone you've only chatted with online and if you do, make sure you take a friend," he said.

"Ensure that meeting is in a public place."
