Take a first look at Sweden’s Icehotel designs for this winter

If you’re a fan of the cold, then you have probably heard of Sweden’s iconic Icehotel.

The hotel – made completely of ice - has been in operation for 29 years and each year sees different designed rooms carved entirely out of ice.

This year, after sifting through over 150 submissions, 15 new Art Suites have been designed where guests will be able to explore themes from the ocean to the woods.

‘The Living Ocean Suite’ has been designed by British father-daugher duo Jonathan and Marnie Green and it was inspired by the eerie underwater world affected by climate change.

Another room, called ‘Haven’, was designed by Jonas Johansson, Jordi Claramunt and Lukas Petko from Sweden, Spain and Slovenia and depicts a ‘magical portal of ice’ guarded by a large Phoenix.

While the hotel melts every summer, work for this rendition of the hotel began in March when ice was harvested from nearby Torne River and placed in cold storage.

Building the hotel will commence in October with the hotel opening date set for December 14 – and it’s never been easier to fly there.

Discover the World has announced there will be a number of direct flights from December to next March to take visitors from London straight to the hotel. The flights will fly London Heathrow to Kiruna in Swedish Lapland – just a 20-minute drive from the hotel.

While at the hotel, you can spend a night in one of the ice rooms but also choose from one of their regular heated rooms as well – and spend your days husky sledding, ice sculpting, on a reindeer ski ride and taking in the Northern Lights.

A classic three night Icehotel Break is available from £1,117pp based on two sharing (two nights in a warm Kaamos room and one night in a cold room sleeping on ice) on a B&B basis including return direct flights between London Heathrow and Kiruna, return airport transfers.
