YOKOHAMA -- Male employees of the Takashimaya department store in Yokohama are causing a stir with a video of themselves dancing that has garnered many views on YouTube.
The Yokohama branch of department store chain operator Takashimaya Co. invited male employees to form a dancing group. Six employees in their 20s to 40s eventually joined, some of them recommended by others.
All the members are novice dancers and practiced hard in July and August. On Sept. 2, the store posted a video on YouTube of them dancing on the men's clothing floor and elsewhere. The video also includes dancing at Minato Mirai 21 and other famous sites in Yokohama.
As of Oct. 25, the video had received nearly 22,000 views.
The store's public relations official said it received an unexpectedly strong response from viewers.
In the wake of their popularity, the store held a fashion show on Oct. 7 featuring the group's members as models. They dressed in so-called Yokohama-style clothing and performed a dance.
