The construction site of the new Takanawa Gateway railroad station in Minato Ward, Tokyo, which is scheduled to open next spring on the Yamanote and Keihin-Tohoku lines, was opened to media organizations on Saturday.

According to East Japan Railway Co., the station building stands on a former rail yard between Shinagawa and Tamachi stations. The three-story building has a total floor space of about 7,600 square meters. There is a large atrium inside the building, which has many windows to allow sunlight to shine through, and a large white roof, designed in the motif of origami. Station-name signs and platform doors have already been installed in the new station building.

Commercial facilities, hotels and international conference halls are planned to be developed around the new station.
