Sekiwake Takakeisho, who is aiming for promotion to ozeki, knocked off yokozuna Kakuryu on Day 10 of the Spring Grand Sumo Tournament in Osaka on Tuesday, while fellow yokozuna Hakuho remained in sole possession of the lead.

In his first matchup this basho against a yokozuna, Takakeisho pulled down Kakuryu to secure his kachikoshi eighth victory. The loss was Kakuryu's second of the tournament, ending an eight-match winning streak that began after an opening-day loss.

Hakuho maintained his perfect record by thrusting down sekiwake Tamawashi (4-6).

In a showdown of ozeki, Goeido collected his kachikoshi win by throwing down Tochinoshin, who is competing under kadoban status and fell to 6-4.

Fellow ozeki Takayasu suffered his second defeat at the hands of No. 4 maegashira Ichinojo, who improved to 9-1 by slapping down his opponent.

Meanwhile, No. 7 maegashira Aoiyama improved to 9-1 by pushing down No. 10 maegashira Shohozan (5-5). No. 8 maegashira Kotoshogiku picked up his eighth win by forcing out No. 5 maegashira Onosho (4-6).
