Komusubi Takakeisho pushed past No. 2 maegashira Tochiozan to pick up his 10th victory and maintain his one-win lead on Day 11 at the Kyushu Grand Sumo Tournament on Wednesday in Fukuoka.
After a strong jump-off, the two exchanged shoves at arm's length in the center of the ring, but Takakeisho eventually knocked Tochiozan (6-5) off balance and slapped him down for the victory. Tochiozan suffered his third consecutive loss.
Ozeki Takayasu, No. 12 maegashira Aoiyama and No. 9 maegashira Daieisho are right behind Takakeisho.
In the day's final bout between Takayasu and sekiwake Ichinojo, ringside judges needed to confer after the ozeki was awarded the victory. The judges determined the decision to be correct, and Takayasu came away with his ninth victory. It was the eighth loss for Ichinojo.
Meanwhile, Aoiyama slapped down No. 10 maegashira Yutakayama (4-7), while Daieisho pushed out No. 6 maegashira Kagayaki (3-8).
