Taiwan has issued a plea to China, urging them to refrain from altering the 'status quo' in the waters surrounding the Kinmen islands. This call comes amidst growing tensions between the two nations over territorial disputes.

The Kinmen islands, located just off the coast of southeastern China, have been a point of contention between Taiwan and China for many years. Taiwan considers the islands to be a part of its territory, while China claims sovereignty over them.

In recent weeks, there have been reports of increased Chinese military activity in the waters near the Kinmen islands, raising concerns in Taiwan. The Taiwanese government has expressed its desire to maintain stability and peace in the region and has called on China to respect the existing status quo.

Taiwan's Foreign Ministry spokesperson emphasized the importance of dialogue and communication between the two sides to prevent any escalation of tensions. The spokesperson reiterated Taiwan's commitment to upholding its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

China, on the other hand, has not responded directly to Taiwan's plea but has reiterated its stance on the Kinmen islands, asserting its claims over the territory.

The situation remains tense as both Taiwan and China continue to assert their respective positions. The international community is closely monitoring the developments in the region, hoping for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing disputes.
