Thai Airways International has advised passengers travelling from and to Taiwan to monitor their flight schedules between Thursday and Sunday as super typhoon Bavi is moving toward the island.
According to Reuters, Bavi is forecast to skirt northern Taiwan before making landfall in eastern Fujian province in China on Saturday evening, according to China’s National Meteorological Centre.
It is expected to be the largest storm by size to hit Taiwan since 1987, Jason Chang, a forecaster with Taiwan’s Central Weather Administration, told Reuters. He noted storms of this size have been “fairly rare in recent years”.
Thai Airways, which operates daily flights from and to Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) in Taipei, suggested all passengers closely monitor weather updates and check their flight status before departure. “Adverse weather conditions may result in flight delays, schedule changes or flight cancellations to ensure travel safety,” it said.
