Taisei Corp. has developed an integrated system for operating remote-controlled construction machinery from different manufacturers for use initially at civil engineering work sites.

The company will conduct tests at work sites and plans to introduce a fully operational system for the Namma Dam construction project in Tochigi Prefecture scheduled to begin in December.

Taisei will then gradually expand the range of sites where the system can be used.

The company expects work efficiency to improve dramatically through adoption of the system, easing the labor shortage that has been causing serious problems for construction companies.

The new system, named T-iCraft, will be installed in various kinds of construction machinery.

Taisei envisions, for example, a backhoe digging soil and depositing it in a dump truck that carries the load to a specified location. A bulldozer and a road roller then immediately begin leveling the ground. All of the machinery is operated remotely.

A series of civil engineering projects can be implemented seamlessly through adoption of the system.

In the past, various kinds of unmanned construction machinery manufactured by the same company could operate collectively, but each firm had their own remote system.

But Taisei cleared that hurdle by developing a system capable of remotely controlling the machinery of different companies in an integrated manner.
