A Cairns Taipans fan has been banned from attending at least three NBL games after directing "multiple inappropriate comments" at Sydney Kings assistant coach Fleur McIntyre mid-game.

The fan, unidentified by the NBL, made the remarks during Cairns' seven-point win at home in round five late last month.

They have been barred from attending the side's next home game against the Illawarra Hawks on Saturday night and any further games against the Kings this season.

The Taipans have two more clashes with Sydney in the regular season, but could also meet in the post-season.

The fan has written a letter of apology to McIntyre, who is understood to have moved on from the incident.

When pressed, representatives for the NBL declined to elaborate on the nature of the comments.

"The NBL and its clubs strongly condemn any form of inappropriate remarks directed towards players, coaches, officials, or other fans, and is committed to making the game day experience a safe, family friendly, and enjoyable environment for all," a league statement read.

The Kings declined to address the incident when contacted by AAP on the grounds that the NBL had been responsible for investigating the incident.

Cairns will not release a statement on the matter and declined to comment.
