Tahya Tounes Prepares to Announce Chahed as its President

Tahya Tounes will hold its first meeting on Saturday to resolve several political issues, including deciding on the relation between the party and Prime Minister Youssef Chahed.

Observers expect that Secretary-General Selim Azzabi will announce Chahed’s official joining of the party and him assuming its presidency.

The party is seeking electoral weight that it lacked during the first polls that it waged.

It would also back him in the upcoming presidential elections if he intended to run.

In a related matter, leaders of the Ennahda movement urged voting for former Prime Minister Hamadi Jebali after he announced that he intended to run for president.

Elections are scheduled for November 17.

However, sources close to Ennahda revealed ongoing disputes within the party over the candidate it will back for the presidency.

Meanwhile, Nabil Karoui, founder of broadcaster Nessma TV, said he will run for president.

He announced his decision late Monday in a live interview with his broadcaster, playing up his highly-publicized charity work.
