Tahith Chong signs new Manchester United contract

Tahith Chong has signed a new two-year Manchester United contract.

Chong , 20, had entered the final four months of his previous deal but has committed to a new contract until 2022, with the option of an additional year.

Chong said: “When I joined Manchester United as a youngster, it was a dream come true. It is an honour every time I pull on the shirt and represent this club.

“I am working hard every day to improve and I know this is the perfect environment to develop my game. The opportunity to learn from the manager, his coaching staff and the world-class players here is fantastic. I am delighted to sign this new contract and really grateful for the chance to prove myself here for many years to come.”

United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer added: “Tahith works extremely hard every day and he is constantly improving. His performances this season, whether for the first team or Under-23s, are testament to his hard work, dedication and to his character.

“We are pleased with the progress he has made since he stepped up from the academy and are looking forward to continuing to develop his talent.

“Tahith has great potential; given his age, ability and work-ethic, we can see that he has a bright future at Manchester United.”

Chong joined United from the Feyenoord academy in 2016 and was included in the 2018 pre-season tour of the United States by former manager Jose Mourinho, who also gave Chong his maiden first-team squad promotion in the Champions League defeat to Juventus at Old Trafford last season. Chong made his debut off the bench in the FA Cup third round win over Reading 14 months ago.

The Netherlands Under-21 international has played 14 times for United but only started on four occasions.

Academy graduates Chong, Mason Greenwood, Brandon Williams, James Garner, and Ethan Laird have all inked new contracts over the last year. Salford-raised Angel Gomes, 19, is approaching the final three months of his contract.
