Tahith Chong makes Manchester United contract U-turn

The agent of Manchester United's Tahith Chong, Erkan Alkan, has claimed that the player is set to sign fresh terms with the club.

Chong and fellow Under-23 star Angel Gomes have been in contract limbo in recent months, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer revealing that offers had been made to both players. MEN Sport understands no agreements have yet been reached, but Chong's representative has said United 'came up with a good plan' for the Dutchman.

It now appears Chong is set to remain at Old Trafford beyond the end of the season. He was linked with a number of clubs around Europe including Inter Milan and Juventus.

His agent, Alkan, told Dutch media outlet AD: “There was a lot of interest, we talked to big clubs, but Manchester United came up with a good plan for Tahith.

"He likes to stay with the club that brought him from the Netherlands.”

Speaking in January, Alkan suggested Chong could leave because he did not feel as though he was progressing under Solskjaer.

However, the past few weeks have seen Solskjaer hand an increased number of first-team opportunities to Chong.

The winger, 20, came on as a substitute in recent home victories over Watford and Club Brugge, though he is yet to net a senior goal for the club in 15 appearances — 12 of them from the bench.

It looks very possible that Chong will now remain at the club, though Gomes is understood to still be considering his options.
