Tag deadline change is notable for Bengals, A.J. Green

The NFL and the NFLPA agreed to push the franchise tag designation period back, impacting teams like the Cincinnati Bengals.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the dates have shifted by two days, with date to apply changing from February 25 to February 27 and end date from March 10 to March 12.

March 12 is significant because it’s four days prior to the new league year on March 18 and the legal tampering period.

This could end up playing a role for the Bengals as they seek out a long-term agreement with A.J. Green. Zac Taylor has been very open about wanting Green back and it’s bound to happen one way or another.

If the Bengals end up using the tag on Green, it will check in around the $18 million mark for one season. Green has said he doesn’t want it but will play under it and it could essentially end up being a tool employed merely to give the two sides even longer to iron out something for the long term.
