Tag at your peril: Magpies ready to protect stars

Tag a Collingwood star, and there will be a wave of Magpies to deal with.

That's the message Harry Perryman has for Adelaide ahead of Thursday's blockbuster qualifying final.

The Crows successfully sent Lachlan Murphy to Josh Daicos in their three-point win over Collingwood less than three weeks ago, limiting the classy Magpie to 19 disposals.

Josh and younger brother Nick both loom as potential targets at Adelaide Oval - but Perryman and his teammates are ready to step in to help shield them.

"I'm happy to help out the boys, that's for sure," Perryman told AAP.

"That's kind of one of our team interests is to help out the boys that are copping a bit of attention.

"If that happens on Thursday I'm sure we'll all come after whoever's getting tagged."

The Magpies can take plenty of heart from that defeat to Adelaide, where they dominated inside-50s (71-37) and clearances (52-38) without reward.

"They're going to be pretty heavy favourites so we'll be looking to knock them off for sure," Perryman said.

"We kind of know how they play. We did a lot of things right last game as well, so we'll be looking to make amends."

Collingwood lost five of their final seven games, after enjoying an eight-game winning streak midyear.

But Perryman is adamant they are turning the corner at the right time.

"We've put together a long season of good footy. Our brand stands up in big games, big finals," he said.

"The boys have been there and done it before as well so this time of year the experience counts.

"I know everyone kind of says we're old but at this time of year that's when it matters so it's just super confident in everyone."

Perryman, a childhood Collingwood fan, joined as a free agent from GWS last off-season.

Now, he's pinching himself at the prospect of his first final in black and white.

"I've been loving it, I've definitely pinched myself every now and then just to be able to play for Collingwood and be part of the MCG most weeks in front of massive crowds. Hopefully I can do them proud," he said.

"When the Pies came to me, pretty much this time last year it was just one of those things that I just couldn't say no to," he said.

"I just wanted to have no regrets in my footy career and I feel like taking that opportunity was one of those things I had to do. Definitely have no regrets, that's for sure."
