Striking school staff in Los Angeles are being well fed by a fundraising campaign set up to send taco trucks to schools across the city.

The campaign, called Tacos for Teachers, was set up to help feed an estimated 30,000 striking teachers and staff members calling for higher salaries, more staff and smaller class sizes.

“Help support striking Los Angeles teachers and their fight for public education by donating to Tacos for Teachers, the fund that brings taco trucks to the picket-lines,” the GoFundMe page reads.

The fund was set up by the International Socialist Organisation and Democratic Socialists of America.

Organiser Clare Lemlich says the campaign started with the intention of bringing awareness of education issues to the city and to include more locals in the effort.

The original goal was to raise $1,000 (£778) and reach one or two schools.

The campaign quickly escalated, raising $15,000 before the strike had even began on Monday.

As of Wednesday, the total sat at $25,000 (£19,500).

The United Teachers Los Angeles union has organised the strikes, which entered their third day on Wednesday.

It’s the latest display of support through food in America.

This week, American air traffic controllers received hundreds of pizzas from their Canadian counterparts amid the partial shutdown of the US government.
