Tacoma mass shooting: Four killed as police called to 'active gunman' scene

Three people were found dead and another died in hospital after police rushed to the scene of a shooting in Tacoma, US.

Police said that officers had been called to the area of Everett Street after reports of a shooting.

The incident was said to have been reported at about 4.30pm on Thursday.

Tacoma Police Department said in a statement that two females and one male had been confirmed dead at the scene.

Another male was transported to a local hospital with 'life-threatening injuries.'

Police later confirmed that the man who had been taken to hospital had died from his injuries.

Officers added: "This is an active scene, please stay [out] of the area."

Local media reported that officers were still searching for the suspect both on the ground and from the air.

Police asked the public to avoid the area while the investigation continued.

A description of the suspect, who has not yet been identified, has not been released by officers.

The suspect was said to be still at large as of 5:45 p.m., police spokeswoman Wendy Haddow was reported to have said.

A SWAT team was also said to have been called to the scene.

None of the victims or the person who was rushed to hospital with injuries and later died have yet been identified.

The deadly shooting is the latest massacre to rock the US in recent months.

Last month four people including a baby who died in their mum's arms were killed in a shooting at a home in Florida, with a girl, 11, shot multiple times.

Earlier this year one person died and 12 people were left injured after a 90-minute shooting spree in Phoenix.

Officers investigated at least eight separate 'drive-by' shootings across the West Valley area in a single night.
