Taco Bell new menu items send hot sauce lovers into a frenzy

Taco Bell announced that they are bringing back Crispy Chicken and the Internet is raving about the news. It seems like every week, I log onto the old World Wide Web and see some wild new thing happening near the doors of a Taco Bell near me. This week, it’s the return of Crispy Chicken tacos, burritos, strips, and even Nacho Fries? The wonders truly never cease at their test kitchen. Whether it’s bringing us all back to the Y2K era with throwback menu items, or making something that creates an Internet goosenecking situation, the people at Taco Bell are masters of spectacle.

Liz Matthews is the Global Chief Food Innovation Officer for the brand, and she offered some comments about getting Crispy Chicken back in our lives. “For decades, our sauces have become a core part of the Taco Bell experience,” Matthews wrote in a statement. “Crispy Chicken is our stage for flavor innovation, with every new sauce collaboration breaking new ground. We take our sauces seriously – they’re the hero of our continued success and reinforces there’s no limit to how we reimagine the classics.”

To be fair, the last part of that statement reads like a threat when I remember some of the stuff that’s come out of the Taco Bell test kitchen in the last half decade. (They can’t all be winners, and really they probably shouldn’t for the good of the order!) At any rate, Crispy Chicken is back and your late night drive thru run just added another important variable on the way home after a night on the town or a hankering for after hours fast food.

Taco Bell brings back crispy chicken and debuts Frank’s RedHot

The side of this story that’s getting reported on even more is Frank’s RedHot being introduced to the Taco Bell menu. Spend any time talking with a person about their favorite hot sauce and Frank’s is probably going to pop-up. (Remember when Beyonce basically turbocharged the whole people carrying around sauce in their purse movement? Because I do.) So, it’s serious. I already feel bad for the people manning the windows at Taco Bell because people are going to want even more packets than you’re “supposed” to get with a purchase. Here’s what Taco Bell had to say about Frank’s RedHot Diablo making its way onto the menu.

“This collab demonstrates the versatility of Frank’s RedHot by bringing its characteristic balance of bold flavor and heat to ignite every bite, reimagining these classics with a partner that’s just as sauce obsessed as we are.” Valda Coryat, Vice President of Marketing at McCormick & Company, Inc (Frank’s parent company) mused. “Fans are getting the Frank’s RedHot experience they know and love wrapped in new ways with Taco Bell classics: nacho fries, burritos and of course, tacos.”

All this talk of tacos is making me kind of hungry. It’s going to be real in the field for all my people behind a register this weekend. I’m already seeing the videos showing up in different corners of social media. Taco Bell’s Crispy Chicken featuring Frank’s RedHot Diablo sauce hits on October 16.
