Taco Bell just added a new cheesy favorite

Over the years, the Taco Bell items that developed the biggest cult followings have been heavy on the cheese.

After launching in 2018, the Yum! Brands (YUM) -)-owned chain's Nacho Fries with cheese dip sold more than 53 million orders in the first two months, while underestimating the popularity of the Mexican Pizza (the blend of monterey jack, cheddar and mozzarella causes a massive cheese pull) prompted petitions and protests.

Over the summer, Taco Bell has been testing another cheesy item at select locations in Ohio. The soft flatbread filled with marinated grilled all-white meat chicken meat, Chipotle sauce and the same three-cheese blend that goes on the Mexican pizza known as the Three-Cheese Chicken Flatbread Melt proved to be popular enough for Taco Bell to commit to rolling it out nationwide starting from Jan. 11, 2024.

The new flatbread melt drops in January (here's how you can get it)

The new item will sell for $2.29 and, as first reported by fast-food news outlet Chewboom, be available at participating locations with no anticipated removal date (although Taco Bell is known for switching its menu around to test new LTOs and quietly removing permanent items that stop selling well).

More Food And Retail:

The set price is also an incremental 29-cent increase for the $2 the Flatbread Melt cost when Taco Bell was testing it in Ohio's Dayton.

For those unable to wait until January, Taco Bell is also launching a new Double Berry Freeze at nationwide locations on Dec. 21 of this year. The blended version of its popular Blue Raspberry Freeze and Wild Strawberry Freeze is a bit like a chocolate-vanilla ice cream swirl in that it combines two favorite flavors for the undecided.

Some other changes, new Taco Bell items you should know about

The red and blue swirl also gives it a pretty appearance while the price has been set at $3.29 for a regular and $3.49 for a large. The chain is also running a promotion in which the large Double Freeze is available for $1 during its "Happier Hour" from 2 to 5 p.m. of each location's time zone.

As the year winds to an end, Taco Bell has kept up its pace of continuously adding new LTOs to its menu during the holidays. Most recently, it brought back the 2000s-era favorite Double Decker Taco that had lost to the longstanding Enchirito during a customer vote-off on which of two items from the chain's past should be brought back to the menu for a limited time.

The sound-off held in September 2022 was quite close (62% of the 760,000 people who cast votes chose the Enchirito which has been part of the Taco Bell menu since the 1970s) and Taco Bell announced that it was bringing back the Double Decker Taco anyway. It has been on menus since Dec. 5 and is expected to disappear sometime before the new year.

Other items announced in recent months include new Frappuccino-style coffee beverages and the Nacho Fries Lovers' Pass that gives customers the chance to pick up an order of fries once a day for a month for a single price of $10.
