Taco Bell is opening a restaurant in Swansea City Centre

Fast-food chain Taco Bell is opening its second Welsh restaurant - this time in Swansea.

The Tex-Mex eatery, which is hugely popular in the US, is expected to set up shop in the in the empty unit next to H&M in Oxford Street.

An official opening date has not yet been announced, but it is understood to be taking place "soon".

Some of the chain's most popular choices on their menu include the Crunchwrap Supreme, a tortilla stuffed with chicken, beef or beans served in a shell, and the Big Bell box - which combines a burrito, taco, nachos and churros all in one box.

It also offers a quesadilla stuffed with three different types of cheese, a spicy "volcano burrito" and fries smothered in nacho-cheese sauce, beef, sour cream and salsa.

Taco Bell opened its first restaurant in Wales in March this year where hundreds of people queued up to five hours in Cardiff for the opening.

The news was leaked by The Big Heart of Swansea, the city centre initiative run by Swansea BID, in a Facebook post.

It said: "A vacant unit in Oxford Street, Swansea will soon be home to Taco Bell, the second branch in Wales. We can almost smell the tacos, burritos and nachos."

The chain was founded in 1962 and there are now more than 7,500 restaurants across the world.

Russell Greenslade, Swansea BID (Business Improvement District) Chief Executive said: “We are very pleased to see another very popular big-name brand making plans to move into Swansea City Centre.

"Clearly, we have seen some tough times over the past few months for businesses, but the continued investments being made here shows that the story is a nuanced one.

"We continue to see a high number of investors making firm plans and enquiries with a view to being part of the next chapter of our City Centre, which is taking shape as we speak.”

Taco Bell UK has been approached for comment.
