Tacko Fall leaves Senegalese national team to focus on NBA opportunity

Tacko Fall is going to give his shot at making the Boston Celtics his all.

According to The Athletic’s Jared Weiss (h/t NESN’s Marcus Kwesi O’Mard), Fall has left Senegal’s national team ahead of the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup to return stateside and focus on making the Celtics’ opening night roster. Fall signed an Exhibit 10 deal with Boston shortly after the draft that was only recently made official.

Fall had been on Senegal’s preliminary 24-man roster but will be returning to the United States to focus making Boston’s opening night roster, according to The Athletic’s Jared Weiss.

7-foot-7 and 310 pounds, Fall is an albatross on the hardwood and has been able to use his unique physical profile to his advantage. However, he’s a raw talent who needs to develop his low-post skill, jump shot and perimeter defense to be a reliable rotation piece.

For a player with his height, you might also expect a more dominant shot-blocker.

Nonetheless, the Celtics seem confident in his potential and his work ethic, appearing to feel as if the most likely route is for him to develop for a season or two in the NBA G League. That route would allow Fall to net a bonus of up to $50,000 if he opts to sign with the Maine Red Claws.
