Tackling after the catch will be a big key for the Browns vs. the 49ers

If the Cleveland Browns want to keep the positive momentum flowing from Week 4, tackling in the secondary will be critical. It’s something the Browns’ Week 5 opponent, the San Francisco 49ers, will test early and often.

Per NFL Inside Edge, no team averages more yards after the catch than the 49ers. In fact, they’re nearly five yards better than the second-place team, the Tennessee Titans.

Tennessee built up their own gaudy average at the Browns’ expense back in Week 1, but the 49ers are even more dangerous. Tight end George Kittle and rookie wideout Deebo Samuel are both among the leaders in average YAC for their positions. Running backs Matt Brieda, Tevin Coleman and fullback Kyle Juszczyk have all found success running after the catch too.

One of the big keys will be how well LBs Joe Schobert and Mack Wilson and safeties Eric Murray, Jermaine Whitehead and Damarious Randall can snuff out receivers after the catch. The 49ers do not hit many vertical pass routes but rely on receivers breaking tackles and creating after the catch on shorter and intermediate routes.
