Can one think of a more pleasing place than the Common Guild, in Glasgow, currently showing a small and exquisite exhibition of the recent work of Tacita Dean? Having trudged through a snowy Kelvingrove Park at the weekend to reach the pocket-sized gallery, we were offered cups of tea (in actual china cups and saucers) by the charming staff "because it's a cold day". Top marks for visitor services, then; and if you are in Glasgow on 17 or 18 December, be sure to book tickets at Tramway for Dean's major work Craneway Event, a film portrait of the great American choreographer Merce Cunningham, made shortly before he died. It will be the first time the highly acclaimed film has been shown outside London.
