Tabloids in Ireland gain readers

The latest newspaper readership figures in the Irish Republic show that almost 2m people (56% of the 15+ population) read a paid newspaper every day. The Joint National Readership Survey, for the July 2007-June 2008 period, shows that the tabloids - The Star, Daily Mirror, Daily Mail and The Sun - are gaining readers. Meanwhile, the Irish Independent is losing readership and the Irish Times is stable.

Dublin's free dailies, Metro and Herald AM, were not included in the survey, but following a complaint to the Irish competition authority it appears that JNRS will include the titles in its future surveys. (Source: Newspaper Innovation)
