Tabby put in 'solitary confinement' at rescue centre for letting other cats out

A badly-behaved tabby cat called Quilty has been put into 'solitary confinement' at a rescue centre for repeatedly allowing older cats to escape their pens.

He was caught by staff at Friends for Life Animal Rescue and Adoption allowing the older mogs out of the senior room "repeatedly, several times a day", reports the Mirror.

Staff at the shelter in Houston, Texas, said his serial escape artistry came to light after he used to allow a dog into the house where he lived.

An online campaign #FreeQuilty began, which led the shelter to review his incarceration with a parole board.

Quilty responded by 'releasing himself' before being returned to solitary.

The shelter said: "Quilty will not be contained and he has shame."

He loves to let cats out of the senior room "repeatedly, several times a day," it added.

"We have since Quilty-proofed the cat room while he took a brief hiatus in the lobby."

They admitted his room mates missed him as they'd enjoyed their "nighttime escapades" around the shelter.

Quilty's still looking for a home. His biography said when he sees closed doors "it challenges me, and I work hard to get it open and I'm usually successful."
