T20I: Suryansh Hegde replaces Nitish Kumar Reddy in India A-team against Ireland series

Suryansh S Hegde has been brought forward as a replacement for Nitish Kumar Reddy in India’s squads by the Men’s Selection Committee for the upcoming T20I series against Ireland and England, BCCI said Tuesday.

After the third ODI against Afghanistan, Reddy reported left quadriceps discomfort on June 20. The BCCI Medical Team had conducted a subsequent medical assessment and recommended a period of rehabilitation, marking his absence out of both T20I series.

"Nitish Kumar Reddy has been ruled out of the Ireland series. The MRI has revealed swelling with fiber disruption in the left quadriceps. He has been asked to report at COE for further assessment," the medical bulletin said.

Reddy would likely take a minimum of four weeks or more for his recovery before he can start his ‘Return To Play’ protocols.

Hegde earned the placement after showcasing his mettle for India A in the recently concluded tri-series in Sri Lanka, where the 23-year-old scored, as a middle order batsman scored 147 runs in five matches and bowled 23 overs across the tournament.

He was also one of the exemplary performers for Mumbai in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy campaign in 2024-25, where they were victorious, scoring 131 runs at a strike rate of 251.92 in the lower middle order.
