T20 World Cup: Andre Russell becomes highest wicket-taker for West Indies in tournament history

NEW DELHI: West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell eclipsed former cricketer Dwayne Bravo to become the Caribbean team's best wicket-taker in T20 World Cup history on Monday during their match against South Africa in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8.

Marco Jansen and Kagiso Rabada overcame impressive cameos from Roston Chase and Alzarri Joseph to extend their winning streak in the present ICC T20 World Cup to seven games. On Monday, they defeated the West Indies by three wickets in Antigua to advance to the semifinals.

Russell had a great bowling performance against the Proteas, taking two wickets in his four over spell despite giving up 19 runs.

The right-arm seamer's total in the T20 World Cup history is now 29, the most of any West Indian bowler to that point. He took these two wickets. Bravo set the previous record in the major tournament with a total of 27 wickets, according to ANI.

South Africa have qualified for the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup for the first time since 2014.

No host nation has ever won the T20 World Cup in 9 editions.
