Training camp is now in the rearview mirror for the Indianapolis Colts and while there were a number of standouts, there was one player in particular that shined brighter than all—wide receiver T.Y. Hilton.
Enjoying what he called the best training camp of his career, Hilton was nearly unstoppable throughout the two-plus weeks and 16 practices. The Colts had some solid performances, but Hilton took home the cake as the team’s MVP at training camp, per Mike Wells of ESPN.
In the two joint practices against Cleveland, he caught 29 out of the 30 passes he was targeted on, according to his calculation, even though most of them came from backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett since starter Andrew Luck (calf) only practiced three days. “I was able to get back to my old roots and get back to where I started,” Hilton said. “Running my routes, getting to the sand, running beach routes, a lot of training on the track work, just continuing to grind in the weight room, get my strength up, get my route running strong. And I’m looking good.”
The Colts had a few others that could have been considered for the job. Cornerback Rock Ya-Sin was a star while defensive tackle Denico Autry was nearly perfect every day.
However, Hilton was unguardable. On the days he wasn’t resting, the 29-year-old wide receiver was leaving the defense in the dust. Healthy from his ankle sprains in 2018, Hilton is ready to challenge the NFL.
The Colts have the dress rehearsal preseason game on Saturday against the Chicago Bears, which is likely the final time the Ghost will be seen on the field until Sept. 8 for the regular-season opener.
