PewDiePie vs T-Series sub count: Indian YouTube channel becomes first ever to pass 100 million subscribers

Indian YouTube channel T-Series has become the first to land 100 million subscribers on the video sharing site.

The channel hit the major milestone after beating Swedish vlogger PewDiePie to become YouTube’s most subscribed.

The Swedish social media star had previously held the title of most popular YouTube channel for six years running. He currently has around 96 million subscribers.

The T-Series channel is dedicated to sharing Indian music videos and Bollywood film trailers.

T-Series' Twitter account confirmed the news earlier today in a post which read: “World’s biggest YouTube Channel, T-Series has achieved another YouTube milestone by being the first one to cross an astonishing #100MillionSubscribers.

“Thank you for being part of our journey. T-Series - Making India Proud.”

PewDiePie (real name Felix Kjellberg) acknowledged his rival’s victory with a music video titled “Congratulations.”

The two channels had previously been locked in a subscriber battle for months, with the race even finding its way to the Super Bowl when PewDiePie rallied his YouTuber friends to wear t-shirts spelling out “Subscribe 2 PewDiePie” at the annual sporting event.

Last December, one dedicated PewDiePie fan hacked into 50,000 printers to spread the word, printing out a message which urged people to “tell everyone they know” about the race.

The YouTuber thanked the fan for their support but asked them not to break any laws in doing so.

Kjellberg said that he doesn’t “really care” about the competition from T-Series in a video posted in October, but claimed that “if YouTube does shift in a way where it does feel more corporate, [then] something else will take its place.”
