T.N. suspends periodical surrender of earned leave till further orders

The Tamil Nadu government has suspended, until further orders, the periodical surrender of 15 days of earned leave for encashment every year or 30 days every two years, according to a government order.

The order shall be applicable to all constitutional and statutory bodies, including State corporations, local bodies, boards, universities, commissions, companies, institutions and societies.

In 2020, the government suspended the periodical surrender of earned leave, for one year, in view of the fiscal stress due to COVID-19. In 2021, it was extended till March 30, 2022.

Terming the development a “huge disappointment and shock”, former secretary of the Tamil Nadu Secretariat Association G. Venkatesan said government employees hoped the Chief Minister would intervene and revoke the order.
