T-Mobile USA investigating online claims of data breach affecting more than 100 million users

T-Mobile USA says it is looking into claims made in an online forum that personal data affecting more than 100 million users is for sale.

US media website Vice reports that, while the forum post advertising the data for sale doesn't say where it comes from, the seller told it that the information has been taken from T-Mobile servers.

Data alleged to be in the haul includes people's names, addresses and phone numbers. Vice says it has seen samples of the information and can confirm this to be true.

The seller is offering a subset of the data - containing 30 million social security numbers and drivers licences - for six bitcoin (£202,943) and that it is selling the rest of it privately.

T-Mobile told Vice : "We are aware of claims made in an underground forum and have been actively investigating their validity. We do not have any additional information to share at this time."
