T.J. Hockenson wore Lion King socks to the draft

In his first meeting with the press as a member of the Detroit Lions, first-round pick T.J. Hockenson revealed he wore “Lion King” themed socks with his blue suit to the NFL Draft in Nashville.

It was destined to be. The only thing that would have been better would be Lions GM Bob Quinn lifting up T.J. Hockenson and showing him off to the Nashville crowd a la Simba.

“The sock choice was completely by coincidence,” Hockenson said with a smile. “‘The Lion King’ has been my favorite movie ever since I was little, you know, Disney. So, I was like, ‘Let’s do it.’ It’s awesome. There’s a lot of signs that came to this with the drop of the puck, or whatever, and then the socks. All I had was blue (clothing), so I was meant to be here and I’m very excited to start this.”

An incredulous Lions press followed up, but Hockenson insisted the choice was a pure coincidence.

“No, I think the night before I left, I packed,” the Iowa product said. “And I was like, ‘Oh, these socks are pretty sweet and they’re ‘Lion King,’ so I’m going to wear them.’ That’s what happened – pure coincidence. I’m just excited to be here.”
