T.J. Hockenson still grading out as one of the best first-round rookies

The folks at Pro Football Focus updated their full season grades for all the players taken in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft. After five weeks of play, Lions rookie T.J. Hockenson continues to perform near the best of all the first-round class.

Hockenson’s grade has not changed with the Lions getting Week 5 off thanks to a bye. His 62.7 mark is the eighth-best of all the first-rounders, fitting for the No. 8 overall pick. However, only four of the players taken before Hockenson have higher grades than the Lions TE.

Several other players taken in the range the Lions took Hockenson —and were popular fan choices for Detroit — are off to slower starts than “Hock.” That includes Pittsburgh LB Devin Bush (56.6 overall), Green Bay DE Rashan Gary (43.6), Atlanta OG Chris Lindstrom (59.6 and now on IR) and Cincinnati OL Jonah Williams (on IR).
