T.J. Hockenson sets NFL record for most receiving yards by a TE in his 1st game

T.J. Hockenson has announced his NFL presence with authority. Detroit’s first-round tight end set the NFL record for the most receiving yards by a tight end in his first career game.

Hockenson broke the record with his 23-yard touchdown reception in the fourth quarter of Detroit’s Week 1 tie with the Arizona Cardinals. That gave him 124 for the game, one more than the prior record.

That record has stood for nearly 60 years. Monty Stickles set the mark with 123 yards back in September of 1960 for the San Francisco 49ers. The post-merger mark (since 1970) belonged to Will Dissly of the Seahawks in Week 1 last season at 103.

Hockenson finished his epic debut with 131 yards on six receptions.

Congratulations to Hockenson for a spectacular debut!
