T in the Park will not return

T in the Park will never come back, according to its organiser Geoff Ellis.

Speaking ahead of TRNSMT festival this weekend, Mr Ellis from DF Concert confirmed the popular music festival, which was once the biggest in Scotland, will not return.

The three-day camping festival was last held at Strathallan Castle in 2016.

Speaking to the BBC, Geoff Ellis said: “It was an amazing festival, but it ran its course.

“Everyone loved T and we all had a great fun doing it.

“You can always look fondly on the past.

“It was really the third major festival in the UK.

“We’ve got some great memories - we’ll always have them and so will all the people who grew up with it.”

Although the first three editions of T in the Park were held in Strathclyde Park in Hamilton, the festival spent most of its life in Balado near Kinross.

Over the years, some of the biggest acts in the world have performed at T in the Park, including Eminem, The Foo Fighters, The Prodigy, Beyonce, Rihanna and Biffy Clyro.

It stayed at Balado until 2015, when the festival was moved to Strathallan after concerns over an oil pipeline under the list.

At the time, promoters had said this led to “continued restrictions” which had a “negative impact” on festival-goers.

The 2015 event drew the largest number of complaints in the festival’s history, with many highlighting traffic congestion around the Auchterarder area.

Two teenagers also died at the 2016 festival in separate incidents, and witnesses reported fights and drug taking in the camping area.

Now, Geoff Ellis is set to host TRNSMT this weekend in Glasgow Green and over 100,000 music fans are expected to attend.

He continued: “It is all about TRNSMT for us now.

“Things move on and we keep creating.

“The festival scene’s really, really healthy these days and it’s great to still be amongst it.”
