SZA reveals past relationships with Drake and ex-fiancé in interview

In the world of music, SZA is known for her soulful voice and introspective lyrics. However, when it comes to her personal life, she prefers to keep things private. Over the years, the singer has had a few notable relationships, including a brief romance with Drake and a long-term relationship with an unnamed ex-fiancé.

In 2020, Drake released a song called 'Mr. Right Now' where he rapped about dating SZA over a decade ago. However, SZA later clarified that the timeline was actually in 2009, not 2008 as Drake stated. She made it clear that she was of legal age at the time, turning 18 in November 2008. Despite the lyrical reference, the relationship between SZA and Drake was described as more of a fling and was not heavily involved.

During one of her shows in London, SZA opened up to her fans about being cheated on by an ex-boyfriend in the city. She made it clear that it was not her ex-fiancé, but another previous partner. This candid revelation gave her fans a glimpse into her personal life and the emotions she has experienced in past relationships.

Speaking of her ex-fiancé, SZA's relationship with him lasted for over a decade, with an engagement that lasted five years. While SZA has not disclosed the identity of her ex-fiancé, she has mentioned that he is a fashion designer. The relationship had its ups and downs, and they were known to be on and off throughout the years.

In a 2023 interview with Rolling Stone, SZA shared that her ex-fiancé played a significant role in her musical journey. He financially supported her and helped her get into the music industry. SZA admitted that at the time, she only pursued music to prove a point to him. However, their relationship eventually ended around five or six years before the interview was conducted.

Many of the songs on SZA's album 'SOS' were inspired by her ex-fiancé and the emotions she felt following their breakup. The track 'Nobody Gets Me' specifically delves into the mixed emotions she experienced after the split. It captures the feeling of missing someone who understood and motivated her like no one else.

During a concert in Portland, SZA hinted at the emotional turmoil she experienced after the breakup. She revealed that most of the songs she was performing that night were written about someone who lives in the city, presumably referencing her ex. With a touch of sadness, she mentioned being blocked on every communication platform, making it even more challenging to move on.

These personal revelations have not come without consequences. In an interview with ELLE, SZA shared that her ex's father reached out to her after the concert where she called out his son for blocking her. He expressed his son's hurt feelings about her public statements. This interaction highlights the complexities and aftermath of a highly publicized relationship.

Despite her reserved approach to discussing her personal life, SZA's willingness to share glimpses of her past relationships and the emotions they evoked has resonated with fans. Through her music, she offers a vulnerable outlet for her own healing and inspires others to navigate their own experiences of love and heartbreak.
