Metros are delayed across the system at rush hour after a medical emergency on board a train.

A woman took ill on a Metro at Monument and a 40-minute wait for an ambulance has caused knock on delays.

Services between the city centre and Gateshead Stadium were completely stopped during the incident.

All trains are now up and running again but passengers are being warned to expect delays.

A Nexus spokesman said: “There are delays system-wide on Metro after a passenger took ill on a train at Monument and required an ambulance.

"The ambulance took 40 minutes to get to the scene. The incident began at 2.35pm.

“Our staff were advised not to move the person, an elderly woman, until the paramedics arrived.

“South bound Metro services from Monument to Gateshead Stadium were halted during the incident.

“Services resumed to all destinations at 3.21pm but are not now operating to timetable.”
