Syringe and flaming heart just some of 200 new Apple emojis

A new syringe emoji and a flaming heart are just two of the hundreds of new cartoon images to be released on iPhones as part of the next operating system update.

There will also be 200 different options for couples with various skin tones.

According to the Guardian, the emojis will arrive as part of iOS 14.5, which is expected to hit iPhones within the next month.

The changes, collated from beta versions by Emojipedia, are a mixture of new creations, modifications to current emojis, plus updates unique to Apple.

Heart on fire and mending heart are both new additions to the emojis. The syringe is believed to be useful for people wanting to tell their pals they've had a Covid-19 vaccine.

Among the biggest change is how users can represent themselves as a couple.

Emojipedia says: "A whopping 200 of the 217 new emojis in this release are there to permit this more inclusive set of couples to be chosen from the emoji keyboard."

Now, the same ability to mix skin tones and represent a couple as more than just yellow faces has been introduced.

iPhone users will also be able to select both a man and a woman with a beard.

The syringe emoji is one of the biggest changes - as it used to just feature two drops of blood. It has been updated to a more general image showing a clear liquid.

There are new options, too, for smiley faces with 'Exhaling face', 'Face with spiral eyes' and 'Face in clouds' being added.
