Syria air strikes: We asked people why they don’t want to bomb Syria - this is what they said

Thousands attended an emergency demonstration on Tuesday evening against David Cameron’s proposed air strikes in Syria.

Organised by Stop the War, protesters hoped to persuade MPs against extending air strikes against Isis targets in Syria, ahead of today’s vote.

Lindsey German, the convenor of Stop the War, told the crowd: "We are here to say one very simple thing: don't bomb Syria.”

"Do not this time go and bomb a country where you make it even worse than it was before."

The Independent spoke to several attendees. Concerns ranged from the threat of further radicalisation to the lack of tangible progress made by coalition air strikes so far.

One protester simply argued “bombs do not solve anything.”

There is expected to be a ten hour debate in Parliament on Wednesday before MPs vote on extending air strikes to Syria.
